Dundee United and Dundee have experienced several fixture clashes in recent seasons, mainly because the SFA and SPL have scheduled home matches on the same day.
On this occasion, there was a chance that United would have to cancel their glamour friendly against Spanish giants Barcelona, if the Dundee club were awarded a home tie in the Challenge Cup.
However, luckily for United, Dundee were drawn away to Alloa Athletic, which means the exhibition match against Barcelona will go ahead on Saturday 26th July, as first announced.
“Eddie Thompson will be delighted we’re not playing at Dens Park,” admitted Dundee’s chief executive, David MacKinnon, to the Daily Telegraph.
“We had already been assured by the SFA that, if we had been given a home tie, then we would have been given precedence because it’s a competitive match.”
