Microsoft Office has speech recognition software, which can allow you to dictate something directly into Microsoft Word, but it doesn’t always come out as you would expect.
As the weekend, Dundee United crashed out of the Scottish Cup 1-0 to Inverness Caley Thistle, after a Russell Duncan wonder strike in the first half and after the match I was listening to Craig Levein talking about how well the United defence had played.
For a laugh, I thought I’d use the ‘dictation’ function in Microsoft Word, to see what would happen if I played Craig Levein’s interview to the computer.
The result…was complete gibberish, but I found it quite amusing.
If you read this you might believe that Craig Levein was a politician, because it makes very like sense overall, but every now and again that are a couple of lines which might make some sense,
Here is the Levein interview, which what he really said in italics afterwards.

We had half a dozen shots from similar positions and didn’t hit the target and there’s the difference between going out of the cup and not. If you go into a football match and your most creative players don’t perform, then there is a chance that you’re not going to score goals. Our two wide players didn’t do as well today as they have been doing and that’s probably the high standards that they’ve set themselves that I’ve gauging them with. We didn’t do particularly well in the wide areas. Even when balls did come into the box, we didn’t react well enough to 2nd balls. The keeper spilled two shots and a cross, we didn’t react to that well enough

We had a couple of good opportunities. Robertson’s missed a header from 2 yards, passed the post. Noel Hunt had a tap in and him and David Robertson ran into each other – These 2 are easier chances than Caley had all day.

I thought defensively we were excellent. I think Derek Stillie only had 2 or 3 saves. 3 away from home against a team that have just beaten Hibs 3-0, beat Rangers and got something from Celtic last week. Don’t let anyone tell you this isn’t a hard place to come and win a match. So the keeper in the whole match only had 3 saves to make. We defended really well.

Lee Wilkie had another good performance. Sean Dillon gets better every week. I felt that in the midfield area, we didn’t perform to quite the level we have been doing, creatively and up top we didn’t. I’ve been lamenting our defenders in recent weeks, so I’ve got to praise our defenders. We just have to put the two things together and give us a better opportunity to win matches.
The problem is that everytime you try this, it comes out with something different. So, you could place the same line to the computer over and over and it could come out with something strange each time you do it.
