Striker David Goodwillie has finally signed a four-year deal with Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn said they had beaten off fierce competition from a number of interested parties for the 22-year-old Scotland international. It is understood the final fee was £2m with an additional £800,000 in possible add-ons.

The news will disappoint SPL champions Rangers in particular after they were reported as having five separate bids turned down.

“I think it’s a massive stage to further my career and there’s no better place to play than the Premiership,” Goodwillie told BBC Scotland. “Growing up you want to play in the Premiership and I’m really grateful to have that opportunity.

“I think it’s every young boy’s dream to play in England at some point in their career,” he added. “I feel ready, and it’s up to the manager and we’ll see what happens.”
