Dundee United’s spirited fightback earned them a dramatic point against Celtic following a couple of very late goals at Tannadice.

The visitors appeared well in charge after second-half efforts from Miku and Tony Watt gave them a clear two-goal advantage.

But with only a minute of normal time remaining, Keith Watson’s long throw ended with newcomer Rudi Skacel having a shot blocked and fellow substitute Gary Mackay-Steven slotted past Fraser Forster.

Striker Johnny Russell then sent another low attempt narrowly wide before Barry Douglas’ injury-time cross was headed over his own goalkeeper by Celtic defender Efe Ambrose.

The SPL champions had earlier created the best chances with Norwegian defender Thomas Rogne heading Scott Brown’s cross wide before Watt did likewise from a Kris Commons delivery.

Home midfielder Stuart Armstrong was well off-target in reply and Celtic skipper Brown would have been disappointed with another header after getting on the end of Charlie Mulgrew’s inviting cross.

Advancing full-back Emilio Izaguirre could only find the side-netting for the visitors following the break while Russell hoisted badly over after Forster parried from Willo Flood at the other end.

However, Miku produced a composed finish to give the visitors the lead with just over twenty minutes remaining after being found by Watt, who soon extended their advantage following a loose clearance from goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak.

That appeared to be game over until United’s late and brave fightback rescued them a point when all had seemed completely lost.
