Dundee United have snapped up versatile Frenchman Gregory Vignal on a short-term deal.

The 31-year-old includes Birmingham City, Southampton, Portsmouth and Liverpool amongst his former clubs and won both the league title and a league cup medal during a loan spell with Rangers seven years ago.

He is listed as being able to operate in either defence or midfield and arrives at the club until 5th January – but with the option of an extension.

“I have been looking to add a left sided defender to the squad,” manager Peter Houston told Dundee United’s official website. “Gregory has plenty experience and it is important that we add experience to our young squad but first and foremost he is a very good player who will provide extra quality on the left hand side of the park.”
