Dundee United boss Peter Houston hopes to be able to keep in-demand striker Johnny Russell at Tannadice.

Chairman Stephen Thompson has already slapped a £2m price on the head of the 22-year-old following “numerous” enquiries.

The highly-rated Russell netted fifteen goals last season and has already scored three times in five games this time around.

Everton, Huddersfield Town, Bolton Wanderers and Derby County have all been linked with the Scotland Under-21 international in recent weeks.

“According to the chairman this morning, there have been no official bids,” Houston told BBC Scotland. “That’s not to say there won’t be an official bid coming between now and the window, but I would like it shut and keep Johnny.”

The latest transfer window finally closes on Friday evening.
