Dundee United striker Johnny Russell could be in contention for the weekend derby with St Johnstone.

The 23-year-old has been sidelined for the last couple of months with a broken fibula after already scoring twenty goals this season.

But he is now back in training and may be involved against the Saints in the penultimate home game of the season at Tannadice.

“We’ll assess him and see how he gets through training,” assistant manager Simon Donnelly told BBC Scotland. “I know he’s keen to be involved in some way or other on Saturday, but we’ll obviously have to take a wee bit of caution.

“He certainly looked sharp in training on Tuesday, he trained and did everything the rest of the boys did,” he added. “I know he’s been working hard with Jeff the physio, so I think he’s a naturally fit lad and he’s raring to go.”
