Dundee United skipper Tam Scobbie has been ruled out for around three months.

The 29-year-old former Falkirk and St Johnstone defender suffered a groin injury during the recent Betfred Cup defeat to rivals Dundee at Dens Park.

Scobbie has since decided against undergoing an operation in favour of allowing a natural healing, but could now be out of action until November.

“Tam will be out for six to 12 weeks,” manager Ray McKinnon confirmed to the Dundee Courier. “He could have had an operation but he is going to leave it to heal.

“I am gutted for him because he has been different class for us,” he added. “But is a good pro and he will come back as quickly as possible.”
