Dundee United manager Peter Houston has confirmed Rangers made an approach for striker David Goodwillie.

But he added their £2m valuation of the 22-year-old appeared to put them off and that no firm bid had yet been received.

“Rangers spoke to the chairman and asked for our valuation of the player,” Houston told the Dundee Courier. “The chairman told them what our valuation is and they think it’s too high.

“That’s where we are at the moment. There is no money on the table, it was an inquiry to ask what we would be looking for,” he added. “As soon as there is money on the table there will be a decision to make but at the moment it’s not at that stage.”

Goodwillie is currently contracted to the Tangerines until 2013 and scored eighteen goals last term.
