Dunfermline were being linked with a move for Steven Pressley last night, after the Scotland International was seen training in Fife.

Pressley, who is actually a Dunfermline supporter, was spotted training at Pitreavie and the rumormill went into overdrive with suggestions that the 33-year-old was considering a move to the bottom-of-the-table club.

However, despite an interest in the player, Chairman John Yorkston has played down the speculation, by admitted Dunfermline were unlikely to be able to afford the talented defender.

“Dunfermline would very much like to have Steven Pressley playing for us, but it is unrealistic. We can`t compete with the Old Firm,” Yorkston told the Courier.

“He`s a local lad and has been on the park training, but not with us.”

Craig Levein also admitted this week that Dundee United would struggle financially to bring Elvis to Tannadice.

He said, ‘With so many other big clubs showing a strong interest, I`m afraid he’ll probably be out of our price bracket – I have to be honest about that.’

Ok, maybe a bit harsh – but if Dundee United are unlikely to get Pressley when we’ve got Levein, then the Pars arent gonna get him. They’ve got even less money than United!
