Peter Houston admitted his Dundee United side were well-below-par during their weekend home defeat to Celtic.

The Tangerines failed to pose much threat throughout and eventually went down 1-0 to Gary Hooper’s early goal at Tannadice.

“I thought, technically, we were very poor,” Houston told BBC Radio Scotland. “Our passing was very poor. When you play against Celtic or Rangers you have got to have belief and I don’t think we had that belief.

“On our own pitch, Celtic set a tone in the first 20 minutes, we got into a rut and we never really got out of it,” he continued. “We battled hard enough, we fought hard enough and I don’t think either goalkeeper has had much to do. But, on the day, I thought Celtic were the better team.”
