Striker Johnny Russell insisted he didn’t give SPL champions Celtic a second thought after finally leaving Dundee United for Derby County.

The 23-year-old signed a four-year deal at Pride Park following the two clubs settling on a fee of in the region of £750,000.

Celtic were earlier rumoured to be considering a late offer of their own for the twenty-goal marksman after showing previous interest.

“Derby were the club who showed their hand and pushed the boat out to show how much they wanted me,” Russell told the Daily Record. “Once I saw the place it was easy to make a decision.

“Speculation is irrelevant and unless there is an actual bid I don’t get worked up,” he continued. “Nobody came in for me with the exception of Derby and despite all the speculation, nothing else materialised. I’m just delighted to get everything finalised.”
