Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon was delighted with the League Cup penalty shoot-out victory at rivals Dundee.

The Group C winners secured themselves an extra point following a 1-1 draw between the two sides at Dens Park.

Their reward was an immediate return visit on either 8th or 9th August after the second round draw produced a repeat tie.

“We played some great attacking football particularly in the first half,” McKinnon told United’s official website. “However even the second half we showed great battling, so I am very pleased with the performance.

“We know we have nothing to fear coming back to Dens in ten days or so,” he added. “We will hopefully have a few players back by then also, so we will have a few more options available to us.”
