Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon was expecting a big improvement against Dumbarton this weekend.

That follows a particularly disappointing display in the 3-0 defeat at St Mirren prior to the international break.

It was sufficient to cost the visitors the early leadership of the table and drop them down into fourth place.

“I am expecting a big improvement, especially in respect of the pace the game is played at,” McKinnon admitted to the Dundee Courier. “The players are getting fitter and it’s about getting at Dumbarton.”

Meanwhile, McKinnon confirmed that sidelined defender Tam Scobbie is making good progress and could soon return.

“Tam has actually been doing really well and was jogging the other day,” he added. “We are going to take our time with him, though, and he could be back around four weeks from now, which would be incredible.”
