Craig Levein was pleased with the performance of his entire team against Aberdeen, but was particularly impressed by the efforts of 20-year-old David Robertson.
Midfielder Robertson scored an injury-time winner, as 10-man Dundee United secured their 1st opening day win in 8 years.
Robertson didn`t play a huge part in Dundee United`s pre-season campaign, but still managed 20minutes of the match against Barcelona after coming on as a 72nd minute replacement for Morgaro Gomis.
However, Levein threw the youngster into his starting line-up against Aberdeen and was rewarded with an encouraging performance and a late winner.
When asked who had impressed him most in the 1-0 win, manager Levein singled out the youngster for extra credit.
He`s repaid me today, not just by his goal, but by this 90minutes worth of sheer endeavour,” admitted Levein.
“He`s not the most pleasing on the eye at times, but he has a knack of popping up and scoring goals and he`s such a game and willing lad.”
“He`s re-paid my faith in him today – he didn`t play in many of the pre-season matches and I plucked in him out the blue a little bit.”
