Peter Houston expressed his delight after his Dundee United side eventually fought its way past Ross County in their Co-operative Insurance third round tie.

The Arabs required extra-time when David Goodwillie’s penalty was cancelled out by Iain Vigurs late on. But a Scott Boyd own goal finally secured a trip to Motherwell in the quarter-finals next month.

“I thought we did well in the first half and it was a tight game,” Houston told BBC Sport. “We went a goal in front and I’d said to the players that getting that the first goal would be very important. I’m absolutely delighted to go through.

“Credit to Ross County, it’s never easy up here and we knew it was going to be a tough fixture,” he added. “Hibs and St Mirren have been put out here. But Dundee United haven’t and that’s the most important thing: we’re through to the quarter finals.”
