Manager Peter Houston praised his side following their opening day victory against Hibernian.

Goals from Johnny Russell, skipper Jon Daly and debutant Michael Gardyne proved enough for a comfortable 3-0 triumph at Tannadice.

“I am delighted with that,” Houston told the Dundee Courier. “It was a good, professional performance and they proved their fitness levels.

“We started the game on fire and scored a goal then could have had a penalty,” he added. “We missed some glorious chances and the game could have been won before it was but I can’t praise the players enough.”

The win should certainly leave United in good heart for their trip to Russia later this week in the Europa League return against Dynamo Moscow.
