Dundee United were given a slight boost in their hopes of signing Hartlepool forward John Daly, with the news that the Victoria Park side have secured the services of Richard Barker.
It was confirmed yesterday afternoon that Hartlepool & Mansfield Town has agreed a fee for the striker, believed to be around £80,000.
The signing of 31-year-old Barker could mean that they are preparing to lose Jon Daly, who has been strongly linked with a move to Tannadice.
Although, Craig Levein is remaining tight-lipped about any potential transfer targets, because it might affect his current sides morale.
“I am trying to strengthen the team. I’m looking at a few people, but I wouldn’t like to say at this stage,” Levein told the Courier.
“I don’t like to mention names or talk about positions as it may have an impact on player morale.”
Irish born Jon Daly has also played for Stockport, Bury and Grimsby. The 23-year-old is Hartlepools top goalscorer at the moment, with 9 goals this season.
Meanwhile, Levein has admitted that he would like to see Shelbourne’s Sean Dillon join his current squad.
Shelbourne announced that the defender had already signed for Dundee United on Tuesday afternoon, prompting Levein to come out and deny their claims.
“He is a player I’d like to bring to the club, but it’s certainly not a done deal,” said Levein.
