Dundee United rallied to earn a point from their opening league game of the season against Kilmarnock at Tannadice.

Substitute Danny Swanson volleyed an equaliser midway through the second-half after debutant Rory McKeown had given the visitors the lead from 25-yards straight after the restart.

David Goodwillie then had a late chance to claim maximum points for the hosts but was denied by a great save from Killie’s Cammy Bell.

Earlier new signing John Rankin, Stuart Armstrong and Goodwillie threatened for the Tangerines, while James Dayton and Gary Harkins did likewise at the opposite end.

Then after McKeown had earned the visitors the lead, Jon Daly saw a couple of efforts blocked in reply before Swanson despatched a 70th minute equaliser after his initial free-kick had been blocked.

Daly later sent Goodwillie through for a potential winner until keeper Bell came to the rescue of the Ayrshire side.
