Dundee United’s new goalkeeper Filip Mentel recognises that it will be a tough challenge but he aims to compete all the way with Dusan Pernis for a starting place at Tannadice.

The Slovakian signed a three-year deal earlier this week after admitting that the opportunity of travelling around Europe with the Arabs was too good to turn down.

“After the season Dusan`s had, it will be difficult, but I will do my best and see what happens,” he told the Evening Telegraph.

“It will be up to the coaches if I get any chance and, if I do, I will do my best ? I don`t want to let anyone down.”

And he added that he has had no second thoughts over leaving one of the richest clubs in the world.

“It was an easy decision because Dundee United are a big club and it`s a great opportunity for me to show what I`ve got.”
