Former Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara has been relieved of duties at York City.

The 44-year-old was originally appointed as their first-team boss in November 2015 but soon led them out of the Football League.

And then facing the prospect of a second consecutive relegation from the National League, McNamara left his managerial position the following October – only to be bizarrely immediately named as their new chief executive officer.

However, a torrid two-and-a-half-year stay at Bootham Crescent was finally ended today with his departure alongside that of current York chairman Jason McGill, who only last week put the troubled football club up for sale.
