It was confirmed that 31-year-old New Zealand International Che Bunce, has arrived at Tannadice for a week long trial.

ArabFC.net told you yesterday that the former Sheffield United defender had come to Scotland to train with the United squad, to give manager Craig Levein the chance to assess the player up close before offering him a short-term contract.

Caley Thistle defender Darren Dods completed his summer move to Dundee United earlier in the week and will arrive at Tannadice on June 1st.

However, Levein wanted more experienced cover for the centre-back position until the end of this season, following news that both David McCracken and Alan Archibald have been told to find new clubs and wont be having their contracts extended when they expire in a few months.

Currently the captain of New Zealand Knights FC, Bunce has played all over europe – including spells with Breidablik (Iceland), Drogheda United (Ireland) and Randers FC (Denmark).

Bunce – who has played International football at full & under-23 levels – joined New Zealand Knights FC in April 2006 on a short-term contract until the end of their season.

“I’ve talked to several people about him and he could steady us at the back,” said Levein.

“He’s an experienced internationalist and he has the profile we are looking for.”

“He’s in for a week and, if he does well, we may, initially, fix him up until the end of the season.”

“Che seems to have the physical attributes we are looking for so we’ll check on his fitness and see how he does before thinking of anything else.”
