Former Dundee United manager Paul Sturrock has picked up the Coca Cola Division 2 ‘Manager Of The Month’ award for January.
Swindon Town boss Luggy lead his side to 4 wins (Milton Keynes Dons, Wrexham, Macclesfield, Boston and 1 draw (Peterborough) last month, securing an impressive 13 points out of a possible 15.
The clubs only defeat came in the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side Crystal Palace 2-1.
The County Ground side were the only club in the division to go unbeaten in league matches for the whole of January, which is why is was no surprise that Paul Sturrock was named as the Division 2 Manager-of-the-Month on Thursday of this week.
“I was delighted to win the Coca-Cola manager of the month award, although I would like to think it is for all the staff here at the football club,” admitted Luggy.
“The manager gets the accolades, but without the backroom staff you don’t get anything. My wife will probably hide the award upstairs, but it is a special one to get and we are very pleased to receive it.”
Swindon are currently 2nd place in the league, just 4 points behind league leaders Walsall and have a difficult league match against Rochdale(a) this weekend.
Paul Sturrock is consider to be a Dundee United legend, after playing in one of the club`s most successful sides ever.
He was signed by manager Jim McLean in 1973, at the age of 17-years-old and spent 15-years as a striker at Tannadice – during which time he became a Scottish International, won the Premier League title, lifted the Scottish League Cup twice and got the semi-finals of the European cup.
Sturrock was also part of Dundee United’s 1986/87 UEFA Cup side, which beat Barcelona, Borussia Moenchengladback on the way to the final, where they eventually lost to IFK Goteborg over 2-legs.
In September 1998 he became manager of Dundee United, but he refused to plunge his beloved club into debt to bring in the players he required – lasting only 2 years before leaving the club in August 2000.
Congratulations Luggy – keep up the good work!
