Fixtures upset Dundee? Who cares?

I don`t understand why Dundee are moaning about the potential fixture clashes with Dundee United this season.

Most of the time its Dundee United who suffer, because it`s usually matches at Tannadice that get moved to accommodate those at Dens Park.

Last season Dundee had their home league match on the 2nd of January, forcing Dundee United to play on News Years day against Falkirk.

In the Scottish Cup, they got to play their match on the Saturday afternoon, while Dundee United were scheduled to play Saint Mirren on the Sunday, until the match was called off because of a water logged pitch.

Now, Dundee chief executive Dave MacKinnon is complaining that his club will lose money if they have to move any of their matches because of fixture-clashes with Dundee United.

However, once again its Dundee United that have move their match against Saint Mirren from Saturday, 15th September back 24hours.

While, Dundee get to play Dunfermline in their 1st division match on the originally schedule day.

Ok, he might have a point, because it should be the SPL and the SFA that sort out these fixture problems and any club that has to move their matches should be compensated – but most of the time, it would be Dundee United that would be getting the compensation money!

Dundee might have agreed to let Dundee United play Kilmarnock on Saturday, November the 10th, moving their match against Clyde back to the Sunday afternoon, but does anyone really believe that Eddie Thompson will have first choice on dates if both clubs are drawn at home in Cup competition?

I`m betting that if Dundee come out the hat first, they`d be demanding a Saturday kick-off, especially if it was a home tie against one of the lower league sides and they needed to give supporters ever incentive to turn up!

“Once again it has fallen to the clubs to find a common sense solution to this situation and fortunately we have a good relationship with United chairman Eddie Thompson who has kindly agreed to switch their game in September,” Dave MacKinnon told the Courier the other day.

He continued, “The priority was dealing with the first clash but we`ll address the issue of the remaining one this coming week and a solution to that will also be found.”

Although, I`ve been giving this situation some thought and I`ve come up with a solution to both clubs problems?..Dundee go bankrupt, and then neither club has to worry about fixture clashes!!!!
