Dundee United were thrashed 6-1 by Falkirk despite taking an early lead at the Falkirk Stadium.

Billy King had them in front on just six minutes but Peter Grant and Reghan Tumilty turned it around before the break.

Louis Longridge then struck twice after the restart and Tommy Robson and Lewis Kidd added further goals.

The visitors earlier handed debuts to new signings Craig Slater and Brandon Mason while fellow newcomer Emil Lyng was included on the bench.

Falkirk had already gone close with Craig Sibbald’s drive finding the inside of an upright and travelling across the face of goal, before King took advantage of James Keatings’ pass to open the scoring.

Both Longridge and Tom Taiwo were again denied by the woodwork, until Grant headed in Longridge’s corner to equalise.

The Bairns continued to threaten with Longridge twice close while Willo Flood almost conceded an own-goal before Kidd set-up Tumilty for a second goal.

On loan keeper Harry Lewis turned over from Jordan McGhee after the break, but Longridge then accepted Andrew Nelson’s pass to drive in number three.

Nelson was again involved when Robson discovered the top corner, that ahead of Longridge curling in his second and Kidd making the most of Sibbald’s enterprise in the final minute.
