Dundee United conceded further ground on the leaders following a scoreless encounter with third-placed Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park.

However, it could have been worse for the visitors as Declan McManus struck an upright for their opponents in added time.

On loan goalkeeper Harry Lewis had earlier frustrated the same player, while both Willo Flood and new signing Emil Lyng saw opportunities at the other end.

Paul McMullan returned from suspension to face his former club and drove at home keeper Lee Robinson, with Flood invitingly across goal after the break but there was no decisive touch applied.

Both Nicky Clark and McManus then called Lewis into action at the other end, where Michael Paton also curled wide after the keeper missed his clearance.

Opposite number Robinson soon turned aside from McMullan and Lyng headed over another Flood cross as the visitors pressed.

Meanwhile, Lewis superbly tipped over a header from McManus, who was also denied by the woodwork in added time as the honours remained shared.
