It’s derby day as Dundee United visit their big rivals Dundee in the Scottish League Cup (kick-off 3.00pm).

Both clubs have won all three of their group games so far, with United currently topping the table courtesy of their marginally superior goal-difference.

Each would progress with a draw even before a bonus-point penalty shoot-out, and any potential loser was still expected to qualify as a best-placed runner-up.

The Tangerines were waiting on the fitness of defender Mark Durnan [hip], although midfielder Willo Flood could start following injury.

Latest signing Scott McDonald is short of match fitness and will probably be on the bench.

Definitely ruled out for the visitors are Cammy Bell, James Keatings, Patrick N’Koyi and Stewart Murdoch, which should witness recent newcomer Tam Scobbie again leading the side.

“You need a good voice at the back and Tam gives us that, as well as his ability,” manager Ray McKinnon told the Dundee Evening Telegraph. “With Cammy Bell and Willo Flood not playing so far, it was an obvious choice to go for Tam and he’s led the team well.

“I’m not saying it’s a permanent thing and we’ll see where we go with that, however whether or not he’s captain, Tam’s always a leader on the park.”
