Dundee United will offer defender Lee Wilkie a pay-as-you-play deal on Monday (Oct 9) after the former Dundee man impressed on trial.
Wilkie, 26, has spent two months on trial at Tannadice, following his return from a third cruciate ligament injury. A previous operation failed and Wilkie has been building up his knee muscle to compensate for the lack of a cruciate.
He has featured in reserve matches and his knee has held up. There has been speculation that if all goes well until the end of the season, Wilkie will be offered a longer-term deal.
Arabs boss Craig Brewster said: ‘I’m going to sit down with Lee and his agent on Monday, then we’ll speak to the chairman about what to do.
‘He has impressed me during his trial and there are not many teams who don’t want a fully fit Lee Wilkie in their squad because he is a top-class defender.’
Wilkie has appeared nine times for Scotland, scoring one goal.
