Norwegian left-back Christian Kalvenes has promised fans an improved performance when Dundee United take on Aberdeen at Pittodrie tomorrow (Sat, Oct 21).

The Arabs’ defence crumbled against Celtic at the weekend, and fans saw a 1-0 lead turn into a 4-1 thrashing in a short space of time.

The players all gave up their day off on Wednesday to watch the video of the match in an attempt to see where they went wrong so they can improve and attempt to climb off the foot of the SPL.

Kalvenes, 29, told the Daily Record: ‘There can be no excuses when you are faced with images of your mistakes. This one was not pretty but I feel it was beneficial because we know what areas of our game need attention and we won’t make the same errors again. In the last two games when we’ve lost a goal we have lost our shape.

‘That has made a 1-0 result become a 4-0 or a 4-1 so we need to be a bit tougher mentally and stand firm even when we go a goal behind.’
