Dundee United can increase the gap between themselves and fifth place to five points when hosting Dunfermline Athletic at Tannadice this afternoon.

The Tangerines will have former boss Paul Sturrock in their dugout after accepting Csaba Laszlo’s offer to take up a temporary coaching role.

But they are going to have to massively improve on recent performances if they are not to drop out of the play-offs at the expense of their latest opponents.

New signing Bilel Mohsni was expected to come straight into the middle of defence, with on loan Celtic right-back Anthony Ralston set to continue following his midweek debut against Queen of the South.

The visitors are likely to be without Joe Cardle after suffering an ankle injury in training last week.

They are seeking to build upon Nicky Clark’s midweek hat-trick in a 3-0 victory at seemingly doomed Brechin City.
