Holders Dundee United were hosting Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Challenge Cup first round this evening (kick-off 7.45pm).

New signing Paul Quinn could feature for the hosts having remained on the bench at the weekend.

The 32-year-old former Ross County skipper recently joined the club until January after a period spent training with them.

“The original idea was to come in for training over the summer, use the facilities to get fit and then see where it led to,” Quinn told the Dundee Courier. “The manager maybe wasn’t totally looking to strengthen in the defensive area at that time but it has worked out that both parties wanted to get something done.

“So it has been a good pre-season for me because I know the boys and the set-up and that makes it a lot easier to join a new club,” he added. “I wanted to stay but the manager needed time to sort out a few bits and bobs.”

United are definitely without skipper Tam Scobbie having been ruled out for around three months after recently suffering a groin injury.
