Dundee United moved joint top of the Championship with a 2-1 victory against leaders St Mirren at Tannadice.

The Tangerines enjoyed an ideal start with defender Mark Durnan heading in Scott Fraser’s cross on eleven minutes.

On loan midfielder Sam Stanton then added a second with the same duration remaining before Adam Eckersley claimed a stoppage-time consolation.

Scott McDonald had driven low at Craig Samson early on while Fraser failed to take advantage of Matty Smith’s break.

But Fraser soon floated in a free-kick for Durnan to head the opening goal, although on loan keeper Harry Lewis then gathered from Kyle Magennis.

Both Billy King and Fraser were wide of the target either side of the interval, with former United loanee Cammy Smith twice missing at the other end.

Buddies keeper Samson next saved from both King and Fraser while Tam Scobbie slid the ball into the net but from an offside position.

However, substitute Fraser Fyvie and Fraser then combined for Stanton to drill low past the keeper and double the advantage.

Substitute James Keatings went close to another before Eckersley’s dipping 25-yard reply proved the final kick of the game.
