Dundee United host a local derby on Boxing Day lunchtime as neighbours St Johnstone arrive at Tannadice (kick-off 12.00pm).

Defender Sean Dillon was expected to again miss out for the hosts with a persistent thigh problem which has kept him out of action in recent weeks.

Forward Gary Mackay-Steven is their other casualty due to a broken hand as the hosts look to bounce back from their latest defeat at Hearts.

“St Johnstone’s a tough match, but we have to start putting a run together with regards to our home form,” manager Peter Houston told BBC Scotland. “Our away form has been good. We played well at Hearts and lost the match, but we have to make sure we start a wee run at home.

“We have to really, really stop giving soft goals away,” he warned. “We have to make sure we cut out the errors that we’re making.”

St Johnstone have midfielder Chris Millar rated as doubtful with a groin problem but on loan Peter Pawlett returns after missing out in their weekend defeat to parent club Aberdeen.

Ex-United midfielder David Robertson and Jamie Adams remain sidelined.
