Dundee United centre-back Brain McLean could be set for a move to SPL rivals Ross County.

The former Falkirk and Motherwell defender entered discussions after recently returning from United’s training camp in Germany.

McLean made 38 appearances having arrived at the start of last season and should he now leave, it would intensify manager Jackie McNamara’s search for defensive cover.

“Brian returned home last Friday and is talking to Ross County,” McNamara confirmed to the Dundee Courier. “But, even although we have brought in Calum Butcher, we were still seeking another central defender and, after deciding not to pursue our interest in Ismo Vorstermans, that remains ongoing.”
