Blackburn Rovers defender Gavin Gunning has been offered a three-year deal by Dundee United.

The 20-year-old trained with the Tayside club on Thursday and they hope to complete a move sometime this week.

Gunning had originally been included in the talks that eventually led to striker David Goodwillie joining Blackburn in a £2.8m deal on Wednesday.

However, United chairman Stephen Thompson confirmed this would now be a totally separate arrangement: “It is a separate deal, although we were under discussions with the people there over the last couple of days,” he told BBC Scotland.

Aberdeen have also been interested in Gunning, who has most recently been on trial at English League One club Scunthorpe United.

Meanwhile, Terrors manager Peter Houston is understood to be considering fellow Blackburn defender Grant Hanley.
