Lithuanian international defender Irmantas Zelmikas has joined Dundee United on trial.

The experienced 30-year-old former Kaunas centre-back linked up with the Arabs for their closed-doors game against Queen`s Park on Wednesday evening, and was also due to feature against Glentoran in Belfast this weekend.

Zelmikas currently has eleven international caps to his credit and is being viewed as a possible replacement for departed pair Andy Webster and Lee Wilkie.

“Irmantas has joined us for a few days so we can get a look at him,” manager Peter Houston told The Courier.

“He will play a part in the Queen`s Park game before training with the squad and then heading over to Belfast.

“He comes with a good pedigree and is an international for his country, so we`ll look at him closely.”
