Dundee United midfielder David Robertson appears set to join local rivals St Johnstone.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and all the indications are that he will sign a two-year deal at McDiarmid Park.

“David has told us he plans to move on because he wants a fresh start,” manager Peter Houston told The Courier. “He has been here a long time and feels it’s time to try something new.

“We did make him an offer but he wants to go elsewhere and become a first-team regular,” he continued. “I wish him all the best because he has been a model professional and a great lad to work with.”

Robertson originally joined the club as a teenager and successfully progressed through the ranks. He famously netted the last-minute winner against Rangers that kept the Tangerines on course for their memorable Scottish Cup triumph last season.
