Scotland might have failed to progress to the final stages of the 2008 European Championships, but it looks like manager Alex McLeish is set to move on to bigger and better things.
There is speculation linking the former Rangers boss to Premiership side Birmingham City, but after masterminding Scotland`s 1-0 win over France in September, there are bound to be several other clubs interested in the talents manager.
“I will fulfil my Scotland duties until something else happens. At the moment there’s a lot of speculation but football’s a strange game and you don’t know what can happen,” McLeish admitted to Sky Sports.
‘It is attractive to me in the long-term (managing in the Premier League) and may be something I can look forward to, but right now I’m the Scotland manager and the stuff you’ve been hearing is pure speculation and there’s been nothing done about that.”
If McLeish does resign his post as Scotland boss, it`s likely that Dundee United manager Craig Levein would be one of the names considered as his replacement.
Craig Levein hasn`t completely ruled himself out of the Scotland job, but at the moment he is happy at Tannadice and isn`t looking to leave any time soon.
“It`s not something I`d discuss just now, because Alex is still in the job”, Levein told Setanta Sports.
“I`ve not heard Alex say at any point that he wants to leave, so basically its speculation from everybody.”
“What I can say is that I`m really happy where I am. I`m enjoying my spell at Dundee United and have no thoughts of chasing anything else just now.”

It would be hard for him to turn the top job down…..
It would, but we’re talking about the Scotland job here….there’s surely a difference!
