Congratulations to Rangers on reaching the UEFA Cup final…
After beating Forentina on penalties in the 2nd leg of the Semi-Final last night, Walter Smith`s side will now face Zenit St Petersburg in the final on the 14th of May.
However, Ranger`s success in the UEFA Cup has had an unfortunate ripple effect on the league, as a fixture pile-up has resulted in a controversial extension to the SPL season.
Usually Dundee United would support another Scottish club in Europe, but for some reason the club have openly criticised the decision to extend the season, on the basis that it will effect gate receipts.
Perhaps Dundee United have some financial problems, or maybe it`s just United trying to vent their anger and frustration at the way Rangers beat them in the CIS Cup Final earlier in the campaign.
There have already been some Rangers supporters calling for Dundee United`s match at Ibrox on the 10th of May to be postponed, to allow the Gers more time to prepare for their UEFA Cup final in Manchester on the 14th.
However, this is unlikely to happen, since it would mean extending the season even further, as Rangers have no other mid-weeks or weekends free until the 22nd of May.
The only change to Dundee United`s remaining fixtures, is that game against Celtic at Tannadice has been moved to from Sunday the 18th to Thursday the 22nd of May.

good article, i dont think rangers should be punished with the fixture pile up, i mean when the fir park shennagins and cup replays etc other teams such as dundee utd, celtic, motherwell have been able to slot these games in during the week, as for rangers? we have had cup replays cup finals and european matches to slot in aswell as the st mirren game from last year (scotland game), its just not been possible. so i thought the sfa would have extended it by a week regardless if rangers get to the euro final or not. u just ave to get on with it now and play theses games as of the new dates and every chairman and chief exc. needs to understand that its a no win situation for every team involved
