Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara was just pleased to get through following their Scottish Cup victory against St Mirren.

Ryan Gauld and Nadir Ciftci were both on target as the hosts eventually emerged as 2-1 winners in their fifth round tie at Tannadice. It was their first success in eight games and since defeating Ross County before Christmas.

“I thought we were excellent. We had good energy in both halves,” McNamara told BBC Scotland. “I’m pleased we managed to get through. It’s important that we’re in the next round. I think deserved to be.”

The Tangerines will next play either Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Stranraer in the last eight of the competition.

“You would imagine that Inverness will come through that at home to Stranraer,” he added. “Happy to be in it first and foremost. Like any other manager, you’re hoping for a home tie. It’ll be a difficult game up there as it was in the League Cup.”
