Manager Jackie McNamara unsurprisingly blamed an awful start as Dundee United crashed 3-1 at home to Motherwell.

The visitors struck twice inside the first eight minutes and later added a third before skipper Jon Daly managed a consolation.

“To go two down so early, that for me was the really disappointing thing,” McNamara admitted to BBC Scotland. “There were a lot of things that we should be doing better, especially at the start of the game.

“We have to stand up and defend better,” he continued. “It’s very important at any level that you go and attack the ball. You get punished if you don’t.”

The Terrors return to action in another Friday evening fixture at Ross County next week before then hosting St Johnstone in their Tayside derby.
