Peter Houston says that his Dundee United side are ready to face up to the challenge of AEK Athens on Thursday evening.

The Scottish Cup winners will be attempting to reach the Europa League group stages for the first time but know they will be given a really stiff challenge against experienced opposition.

However, Houston has likened preparations to those of their recent Hampden cup final triumph and is certain his charges can deal with it.

“It’s been the same as any preparation for a massive game, the Scottish Cup was a massive game for us to try and win so it has felt similar,” Houston told the Daily Record.

“This is my first European match as a manager, although it’s not the first time I’ve coached in Europe as I did that with Craig Levein at Hearts a few times.

“So this is a whole new challenge and as our players won’t know the AEK Athens boys we have had to build up a dossier,” he added. “I’ve been working on giving our lads information on their system and how we are going to counter it.”
