Dundee United hit Queen’s Park for six on their return to Hampden Park in their closed-doors friendly on Wednesday evening.

Recent signing Barry Douglas appeared for the duration against his former club as the Arabs struck a handsome half-dozen without reply in their continuing build-up to the big kick-off on 14th August.

“Dundee United played a strong team and we found out that when we make mistakes against players of that calibre then we get punished,” Spiders boss Gardner Speirs told The Glaswegian.

“We never let our heads go down and we continued to pass the ball and try and go forward. We forced the Dundee United keeper into three or four really good saves so we look on that as a positive,” he added.

“We got a real footballing lesson at times but our guys deserve credit for sticking to their task and continuing to try and do the right things.”
