Dundee United could lose as much as £50,000 on their trip to take on AEK Athens in the Europa League.

The club are struggling to find a suitably priced charter plane due to the school holidays in England and may be forced to shell out around £120,000 to fund the journey.

It has also caused a change of schedule as plans to stay in Athens and train on Friday would have to be ditched in favour of a late-night trip home.

“We had hoped to stay overnight but the situation with the aircraft means we’ll be coming back straight after the game,” chairman Stephen Thompson told the Daily Courier. “It has proved difficult to get a plane chartered because of the English holidays.”
