Dundee United have waved aside a fifth offer from Rangers for striker David Goodwillie despite claims from the SPL champions that they have matched Blackburn Rovers’ earlier bid.

That follows the 22-year-old travelling to Ewood Park for a medical delayed from Monday after the Tangerines finally accepted a £2.8m offer from the English club.

However, it would appear Rangers boss Ally McCoist still hadn’t given up hope of taking Goodwillie to Ibrox.

“We’ve all made no secret of the fact that David is a player we would love to see at Rangers,” he told BBC Scotland. “We just have to wait and see in the next couple of hours what happens.

“I’m forever optimistic. There’s a little bit of work to be done and obviously Blackburn have put in a bid that’s been accepted.”
