Dundee United scored a goal in each half as they completed a 2-0 victory at Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup fourth round.

Defender Mark Durnan headed them in front close to the interval and recent signing Emil Lyng then went on to claim his first goal for the club.

Substitute Idris Kadded could also have earned that same distinction but his late effort came back off the crossbar.

Jordan Kirkpatrick had given them an early scare while Sam Stanton replied by curling wide before Craig Slater’s free-kick proved only tame.

However, recent arrival Slater delivered the corner from which Durnan headed his side in front near to the break, while home keeper Neil Parry denied Scott McDonald at close-range after it.

But with over an hour played, Stanton offered newcomer Lyng the opportunity of doubling the lead and the Dane suitably found the top corner.

Kris Renton then went close at the other end before young Frenchman Kadded challenged the frame of the goal during the closing stages.
