3 In-A-Row… Has The Season Finally Started?

Midfielder Scott Robertson wasn’t wrong when he predicted that last weekends victory would kick start Dundee United`s season.

Craig Levein`s were tipped for 3rd top spot in the SPL before the campaign started, but an embarrassing defeat to Hamilton(a) on the opening day of the season looked set to prove the bookies wrong.

After 5 games played, Dundee United sat at the bottom of the table, the only SPL side without a victory, only able to manage 1-1 draws against Motherwell(a) and Celtic(h).

Then came a crucial trip to Pittodrie, to take on an Aberdeen side that had yet to win a home match in the Scottish Premier League this season, while the Setanta TV cameras watched on.

The game was very balanced, with neither side able to create a decent goal-scoring opportunity, except for a handful of untidy scrambles infront of the Dundee United goalmouth.

However, it was Dundee United that snuck away with all 3-points after a bizarre incident when Tommy Wright inexplicably handled inside the home penalty area, allowing United striker Francisco Sandaza to seal a 1-0 victory from the penalty spot.

Its not that Dundee United haven`t played well this season, a lack of confidence infront of goal and some ridiculous refereeing decisions have cost Craig Levein`s side points.

Although, it was predicted by some, including midfielder Scott Robertson, that the confidence-boosting win over New Firm rivals Aberdeen would be the start of a Dundee United revival.

The 1-0 win over the Dons, was quickly followed by a convincing 2-0 win over Airdrie United in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

Then this weekend, on-form Hearts arrived at Tannadice in search of 3-points that would catapult the Edinburgh side back into 2nd in the SPL league table.

But it was the Dundee United supporters that were left smiling after 90minutes, after an amazing free-kick from Craig Conway, a rare strike from Jon Daly and a 2nd-half header from Scott Robertson gave the home side a deserved 3-0 win.

Can Dundee United continue the good run next weekend against Inverness Caley Thistle at Tannadice…. former player-manager Craig Brewster will be hoping not, but after 3 wins on the trot for United, nothing looks impossible!
